The IMAX film Journey to Space is now available on Blu-Ray. Viewers enjoy the crisp, bright picture and the incredible graphics while learning about the Atlantis Shuttle retirement, ISS, and future interplanetary travel.

NASA Program of Old:

Students across the country kept track of NASA programs when I was a kid.  In school, we watched shuttles rocket out of the atmosphere and we chose to watch them at home too! It was exciting for all of us. I remember sitting in a 5th-grade classroom and seeing the Challenger Shuttle explode.  We’d all seen enough shuttle take-offs to know immediately that something was wrong. Once, my school had one of the original astronauts come and speak with us as a very exciting assembly.  My husband had similar experiences.  That was the norm in the 80’s; everyone wanted to be an astronaut.

The space shuttle program has now ended. Now, NASA works on various other projects – all of them exciting, but less well-known.  Journey to Space gives viewers a glance at what has been taking place since the space shuttle program closed. It also gives you the opportunity to look forward to new exploration in the future when astronauts visit Mars in the Orion.

Journey to Space Blu-ray:

The exceptional film, shown in IMAX theaters, Journey to Space, is now available for purchase. You may have missed its first release, but you do not have to miss the 2nd. This Blu-ray will take you through the NASA program from the time the Atlantis Shuttle retired to the current ORION project that will take astronauts to Mars in the future. Along the way, viewers will learn about the International Space Station and how the Hubble Telescope was repaired as well.

The Cinematography in this film is incredible. It is rare to see footage as clean and sharp as this Blu-ray has it.  Even more incredible are the graphics where you may assume you are seeing real pictures from space – until you realize what they are talking about hasn’t happened yet! Some of the scenes are shown as if they are in a motion-oriented scrapbook.  Scenes of space and stars are behind footage the viewers focus on to learn more about living on the ISS and interplanetary travel. The effects of this cinematography are exactly what you would expect from a film originally formatted for IMAX theaters.

 Educationally:

Journey to Space is a short 45 minutes. There isn’t enough time for viewers to learn all the in’s and out’s of NASA projects.  It is, however, the perfect way to gain an interest and desire to learn more from other sources.  The overview is not rushed, and it includes plenty of information on the topics it touches on to allow viewers the opportunity to learn a little about a lot.  I very much enjoyed it! This is definitely a family-friendly film my family will watch multiple times.
