Want fast but healthy meals?

Hey, Rose here, and I have a wonderful item for you. Well, it isn’t an item so much as a service.  IONutrition is a meal delivery plan where customers receive gourmet meals they can heat in their microwave. They send you a weekly delivery of vacuum-packed meals on trays that you pull from the shipping cooler and place in your fridge.

IONutrition was nice enough to send six meals: two breakfasts and four lunch/dinners. My wife and I decided to make them all dinners to cover our weekend meals. We will start with our first night.

So, what was on the menu for the first night?

I decided to go for the curried tomato & beef strips first. I picked this meal because I was worried it would be spicy and wanted to get it out of the way quickly. I was pleasantly surprised by it. It is very flavorful with just a little hint of heat but not so much my mouth was burning. The beef is more like thin chunks, and I wanted strips; especially when that is what I expected.  Even with that, they claim it has a whopping 35 grams of protein. They say that is 70% of your protein for the day, so if you run around without being able to grab good food during the day, this helps keep your protein needs under control. The whole tray is 375 calories.

My wife opted for the heirloom smoked vegetables with chicken tenders. She doesn’t have a big appetite and is actually making two meals out of it. I guess I am getting an extra meal! The full tray is only 305 calories. She said it is very tasty and has a decent heat on the back end.  The tray has two good size tenders and mixed smoked vegetables. My wife finished her chicken the second night and said it was still tender and easy to eat, even reheated.

This is what was on tap for day two with IONutrition.

I had salmon with a mix of cabbage and broccoli. At only 350 calories per tray, it is filling. The salmon is a good size fillet with good flavor. I buy a lot of fish in the store that, once cooked, has an off-putting metallic taste. I got none of that from this fish. I took a bite and went WOW!

I also received a shrimp and quinoa meal that I have not gotten around to trying. Based on the three we ate, I doubt I will be disappointed.  I also have a healthy granola mix that I will eat another time. I am not a big cereal person. I hope to enjoy the frittata I received during the week.

So what’s the skinny of IONutrition?

If I worked a busy schedule and had the money, I would love to try IONutrition again. I have limited access to cooking on the weekends and this was a life-saver for me. Every meal heats in the microwave inIONutrition 2-3 minutes! IONutrition has three different subscription plans and offers an A La Carte deal if you don’t want to get locked into a subscription.
